Importance of using the correct SIP configuration
If a VoIP device is configured incorrectly, it can effectively mimic a break-in attempt, which causes the BrightPBX system to block the device. Some configuration parameters form part of the service authorization and authentication requests, and are strictly examined and tracked.
What happens with wrong credentials
Section titled “What happens with wrong credentials”When a device uses the wrong credentials, it starts sending authorization requests more frequently, exponentially decreasing its timeout. Eventually requests may be sent every 10 seconds or less. Sending that many invalid requests in a short period is characteristic of a DDoS attack, and degrades service for other users.
One incorrectly configured device may not affect the server. But 2,000 devices all sending incorrect requests every 10 seconds forces the server to spend resources examining them. To protect the system and other users, the problematic source is blocked.
